Construction Industry Scheme (CIS)

Under the CIS scheme, contractors deduct money from a subcontractor's payment and pass this onto HM Revenue and Customs ("HMRC"). These deductions count as advance payments towards the subcontractor's tax and national insurance. With monthly returns due by the 19th of each month and penalties starting at £100 for late filings, it's vitally important to keep on top of this.
